How Data Science is Driving Innovation
Big Data + Big Pharma = Big Promise
Data science has revolutionized industries around the world, so it is no surprise that it is making an impact in the life science sector, too. With enormous pressure to accelerate time to market and data-driven decisions increasingly preferred by boardroom leaders, access to and analysis of data is changing the way that companies innovate in an incredibly competitive space.
Najat Kahn serves a dual role as Global Head of Strategy and Operations at Johnson & Johnson and Chief Data Science Officer at Janssen R&D. She joined Healthware Group Managing Director Paul Tunnah to discuss how data was changing the game in biopharma and challenged her peers to embrace this change.
Today there is a confluence of technology and medicine, she explained, that is enabling life science companies to innovate rapidly and get treatments to patients faster.
Kahn urged her industry peers to adopt the J&J approach to innovation generally and data science specifically. Be agnostic to the source of innovation whether internal or external, she advised, and let the smartest idea win.
“We’re seeing an explosion of impact end-to-end,” she said, and it is time for pharma companies to move out of the “land of pilot projects” and embrace data science as the next wave of innovation in healthcare.
